Program Introduction (Brief):

Visual Basic is the most widely used programming language for creating Windows applications. In this course, students learn how to write Windows applications and programs using the Visual Basic programming language and the Visual Basic development environment.

Creating a Windows application ordinarily requires you to write lengthy and complex code. But, as you'll see, the Visual Basic development environment relieves you of this task. Instead, it enables you to create the application program and its components literally with the click of a button or menu item. It even writes all of the necessary code to get the application started for you, which you can then view and fine-tune.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Identify the differences between the procedural languages and event-driven languages
  • Define and modify the properties and methods associated with an object
  • Load, modify, and save changes made to forms and projects in the Visual Basic environment
  • Write syntactically correct statements using local and global variables, sub procedures, forms, and Windows environment calls.
  • Identify, and write syntactically correct statements using the relational operators
  • Identify and write syntactically correct statements using the assignment operator
  • Identify and write syntactically correct statements using the Select structure
  • Define and implement form objects including data arrays, control arrays, text boxes, message boxes, dialog boxes, labels, controls, menus, frames, picture boxes, pull-down menus, and combo boxes
  • Manipulate strings using various String functions
  • Create sequential files to read from and write information into them
  • Identify the difference between Random Access files and Sequential files
  • Create applications using Random Access files
  • Use one dimensional array in your applications
  • Use the debugger in the Visual Basic environment to set breakpoints, program step, procedure step, and display any program variable
  • Identify and perform the steps necessary to convert Visual Basic programs to executable files that will run in the Windows environment
  • Introduction
  • Introduce More Controls and Their Properties
  • Variables, Constants, and Calculations
  • Decisions and Conditions
  • Menus, Procedures and Functions
  • Lists, Loops, and Printing
  • Arrays
